Hell on Hogsback: Endurance Challenge in Cleveland, Ohio is a physical and mental test geared towards those looking to give back in a BIG way on one of the most infamous hills the area has to offer.  The race is located in the Rocky River Reservation at the top of Stinchcomb Memorial Hill. The objective is simple: how many times can you complete the out & back hill course within the allotted time?

Runners will complete their lap by completing a loop through the parking lot where runner's aid stations, tents, and vendors will be.

There will be three different endurance challenges available:

  1. Solo - 12 Hour Endurance Challenge (Starting @ 7:00a)

  2. Solo - 1 Hour Endurance Challenge (Starting @ 7:00a)

Make Your Miles Count Even More!
One way to share the work of our agency and mission is to become a charity team fundraiser! Below are simple ways to fundraise for this event:

1. Sign up for the race and to become a fundraiser or start a fundraising team during registration: Reach out to your friends, family, colleagues, and local businesses to donate to help reach your team’s over-all goal which helps to raise epilepsy awareness!

2.Set your goal: We suggest $500 for individuals and $2,000 for teams.
Those who raise $250+ become an official charity team member and earn a special charity team member t-shirt (shipped after event).
Those who raise $500+ get the charity team t-shirt and their race entry re-funded back to them.

3. Fund-Your-Run: Get sponsored for your run! Ask friends, family, and co-workers to sponsor you per mile. This is an easy way to get others involved and to quickly reach your personal fundraising goal.

All proceeds from the race will go directly to our agency’s local programs and services which assist those affected by epilepsy in Northeast Ohio and their families. To read about the agency programs and services, click here.

About the Run

On December 31, 1992, tragedy struck our small tightknit community, as Assistant Chief Arthur Schumacher of the Valley City – Liverpool Township Fire Department lost his life during a water rescue. Assistant Chief Schumacher spent his adult life serving our community.

To honor his service and his memory, the Valley City Firefighters Association set up a scholarship fund to help support our community’s firefighters further their education in the field of fire and EMS. Each year during our Street Fair, the Firefighters Association holds a 5K race/ 1 mile-fun run, with the proceeds of this event being set aside to support the Arthur E. Schumacher Scholarship Fund.

Like many events, this race suffered the lingering effects of the Global Pandemic and was not able to be run for several years. This year, the Valley City Firefighters Association and our community volunteers are bringing back The Arthur E. Schumacher Memorial 5K Race at the Valley City Street Fair.

Street Fair 5K Course Map

Start and end this tough 5K course with the firefighters! This tough course has 135 feet of elevation change and a fun run through Mill Stream park and beautiful neighborhoods! Join in the community social time at the finish line before exploring the Street Fair!
